Visiting Professorships
The Fisher Center has hosted several distinguished Visiting Professors at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. These include:
Dr. Veda N. Giri is Division Chief of Clinical Cancer Genetics for Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital and Assistant Director of Clinical Cancer Genetics for Yale Cancer Center at the Yale School of Medicine. Her May 2017 presentation was entitled, “Genetic Testing for Inherited Prostate Cancer: Considerations for Patients and Providers.”
Dr. Elena Martinez Stoffel is a Clinical Associate Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and the Director of the Cancer Genetics Clinic at the University of Michigan Health Systems in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In March 2017, she presented grand rounds entitled, “Germline Implications of Tumor Testing – A New Paradigm in Precision Oncology.”
Dr. Timothy Rebbeck is a Professor of Epidemiology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the TH Chan School of Public Health at Harvard University. The title of his talk was, “BRCA1/2: A Paradigm for Precision Medicine,” presented in December 2015.
Dr. Olufunmilayo I. Olopade is the Walter L. Palmer Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine & Human Genetics, Associate Dean for Global Health, and the Director for the Center for Clinical Cancer Genetics at the University of Chicago Medical Center. In November 2013, she gave a dynamic presentation entitled, “Defining Pathways to Personalized Cancer Prevention.”
Dr. Harold Frucht was the Program Director of the Muzzi Mirza Pancreatic Cancer Prevention and Genetics Program at the Pancreas Center at NY-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. He presented a talk entitled, “Pancreas Cancer: Genetics and Prevention” in October 2011.
Dr. Stephen Gruber, the Vice President of the City of Hope National Medical Center and the Director of the Center for Precision Medicine at the City of Hope, gave a provocative presentation in December 2010 entitled, “The Expanding Horizon of Genetic Testing for Colorectal Cancer.”
Dr. Muin Khoury, the Director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Office of Public Health Genomics, gave a seminar in 2009 entitled, “Letting the Genome Out of the Bottle: Will We Get Our Wish?”
Dr. Andrew Freedman, the Chief of the Clinical and Translational Epidemiology Branch at NCI, gave a talk in September 2009 entitled, “Advancing Personalized Cancer Therapies: The Critical Role of Genomic Pharmacoepidemiology.” Dr. Freedman’s Professorship was co-sponsored by the Division of Health Outcomes (Cancer Control, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center).
Dr. Steven Narod is the Director of the Familial Breast Cancer Research Unit at the Women’s College Research Institute in Toronto and has been named the most cited scientist in the world in the field of breast cancer. In October 2008, his seminar was entitled, “What’s New in Hereditary Breast Cancer?”
