In 2012, Dr. Eleni Tousimis, a renowned board certified breast surgical oncologist with expertise in minimally invasive breast cancer surgery joined MedStar Georgetown University Hospital as Chief of Breast Surgery. In addition to being the Director of the MedStar Breast Health Program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH), in 2014 she was named the new Director of the Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center at MGUH.
She is a native of Washington, DC who returned to the area after spending the last ten years in New York City. Dr. Tousimis completed her fellowship at Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center and was an Associate Professor of Surgery and Associate Program Director of Surgical Education at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital. As a well respected clinician, researcher, and teacher, Dr. Tousimis has received numerous awards and holds leadership positions in several professional societies including the American Medical Women's Association. She is also section editor of oncoplastic surgery in the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal. She has been recognized for her pursuit of new initiatives in breast cancer management, including nipple sparing mastectomy, partial breast radiation, and new anesthestic techniques for breast surgery.
