Lorna Dressendorfer, RN, BSN is a Breast Nurse Navigator in the Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. She graduated from George Mason University with Honors in 1995. She has dedicated her entire nursing career to women’s health and is an active member of the National Coalition of Nurse Navigators. Ms. Dressendorfer works primarily with breast cancer patients, and takes an active role in their treatment planning, coordination of care, education, and advocacy. She provides a support system for the patient and family from diagnosis, through treatment and into survivorship, empowering them along the way to make informed decisions. In addition, Ms. Dressendorfer works with high risk women, including those with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation, as they consider and possibly go through the process of prophylactic mastectomy. Ms. Dressendorfer understands the unique needs of her patients, providing kind and compassionate care at every step of the journey.
