Sandra M. Swain, MD
Dr. Swain is the Medical Director of the Washington Cancer Institute of the Washington Hospital Center and Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University. She is an active member of the NSABP breast committee, vice-chair of the breast committee and Chair of three international Phase III randomized studies focused on adjuvant treatment of breast cancer. She is a member of the Board of Directors of NSABP. Her research interests are evaluation of novel therapeutics and targeted therapy for locally advanced, specifically inflammatory breast cancer, and metastatic breast cancer. Also, she has a strong interest in adjuvant therapy of breast cancer and the effect of chemotherapy on ovarian function in this setting. She was instrumental in the approval of dexrazoxane for cardioprotection with anthracylcines for breast cancer treatment.
