Genetic Counseling & Testing

Genetic counseling is a comprehensive process of risk assessment, management and support for individuals and families concerned about their risk of developing cancer.  If genetic testing is pursued, genetic counseling is an integral component of that process, both before and after genetic testing results are obtained.

Through clinical and research programs supported by the Fisher Center, many options are available for individuals who wish to learn more information about cancer risk and optimal ways of cancer screening and risk reduction.

For more information about appointments, please call (202) 687-1750 or toll free (877) 687-1750.

**New for health care providers:  The National Society of Genetic Counselors has developed a set of referral guidelines to help you determine appropriate candidates for genetic counseling.  Click here for a PDF of this information.**
